One of Uganda’s smaller National Parks, Lake Mburo is the closest to Kampala, and offers a refreshing stopover when travelling to or from the western parks.
It is covered with extensive acacia woodlands, and, although it enjoys much less rainfall than Kampala and the southwestern parts of Uganda, the area is dotted with many lakes. It is one of the best places in the country to see the giant eland antelope as well as hundreds of zebras. Since the summer of 2015, Lake Mburo is also home again for several giraffe families. In the park you can enjoy guided walking safaris (recommended), game drives, boat trips (not so scenic) and horseriding organized through Mihingo Lodge. There is an UWA campsite at the lake shore, or you can stay in the upmarket Mihingo lodge, mid-range Rwakobo Rock or budget Eagle's Nest.
